Awarding Body

Pearson UK

Pearson BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council) is a premier framework of career-focused, vocational qualifications awarded by Pearson. Designed as a practical alternative to purely academic education, BTECs assess learners through real world assignments and continuous coursework rather than traditional end-of-year exams.

Core Characteristics of Pearson BTEC

  • Hands-on Learning: Courses are built around themed, practical units that reflect the realities of the workplace.
  • Continuous Assessment: Instead of cramming for a single final exam, students build a portfolio of work via projects, presentations, and practical tasks throughout the year.
  • Levels of Study: BTECs span from foundational Entry Levels (Level 1/2) all the way up to advanced professional qualifications (Level 7). Level 3 is typically equivalent to A-Levels, while Level 5 Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) are equivalent to the first two years of a university degree.
  • Industry Alignment: BTEC syllabi are developed alongside industry experts to ensure graduates possess the practical skills and behaviours required by modern employers.

Global Recognition & Pathways

  • Recognised by universities, colleges, and employers in over 70 countries, BTECs offer a highly flexible educational path. Students use BTECs to transition directly into the workforce, pursue modern apprenticeships, or use them as a stepping stone to top up into full undergraduate degrees at hundreds of higher education institutions worldwide.
